Once completed they will pick up a firefighting nozzle attached to a 1 ½ inch attack hose that is 50 feet long and drag it 50 feet then lay it down. Then they will proceed to the drill tower and climb the stairs to the third floor, proceed to the inside stairwell, and walk back down to the bottom floor. Next, they will pick up a fire extinguisher simulator walk 10 feet, and use the extinguisher on the fire extinguisher simulator to extinguish a fire. This will all be timed with time beginning when the student begins donning gear and will finish when the fire is extinguished.
Students will use the driving simulator in the adult education building to respond to an emergency in a fire truck. The student will begin with 100 points. As they respond to the incident, points will be deducted for accidents, moving violations, and losing directions.
v Scores from both events will be tallied and the winners will be determined using these scores.
v Area Fire Department representatives will be on hand to answer questions.
v Prizes will be awarded.
These events are open to high school student’s grades 10-12, and anyone in the community interested in becoming a firefighter.
